North Star Club, Woodland Retreat
Well… what an amazing find right on our doorstep. I had literally no idea this place even existed. For anyone living in or near East Yorkshire you have to check out North Star Club in Sancton.
North Star Club is a woodland retreat nestled by the small village of Sancton which lies between York and Beverley. Started by a couple six years ago, first with Jollydays Glamping and now North Star Club. They host couples and families but also small events like hen parties, and I believe if you check out Jollydays they also do Woodland weddings, how awesome would that be!
Set within 500 acres of Native English woodland in the beautiful and quaint Yorkshire Wolds, this truly is a place to escape and leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
We stayed in the Star Suite, though there are 8 private and well spaced woodland suites. Though within sight, each is more than 25m apart within the woodland giving you a very secluded feeling of privacy.
The Star Suite had a private verandah with rustic dining and bbq. We got wrapped up the first morning and cooked up some sausage sarnies for brekky. There had been a storm the night before, so it was all drizzly and we were in the middle of the woods on our covered verandah with the trees dripping around us, bliss. Inside there’s a small entrance room with sofa bed and table, first small bedroom with a set of bunks (we just stored our luggage here), main bedroom all decorated in a modern yet rustic style, candles and furry throws with a cool tree trunk style four poster bed and a wood-burning fire in the corner, a small separate kitchenette with basic amenities, tea, coffee, kettle, plates, cutlery etc for eating… then, the crème de la crème… the spa style bathroom with roll top copper bath-tub!!! Really made me glad we chose the Star Suite. From what I know the others have white tubs but ughhhh that tub is to die for! It was just the perfect finale touch to the whole place, and felt and looked so luxe! Definitely added to the virtual moodboard in my head for the dream home! It also comes with a private infra-red sauna just outside. We used it just the once as you had to run (in our case literally, as it was January and almost freezing) across from the main building, just a few steps but that was more than enough.
The first night was my birthday so we drove a short 15 minutes to Beverley to visit Ogino, a pretty great Japanese Restaurant. I’m a huge fan of sushi but it seems that us Northerners haven’t quite gotten into that yet, so its a rarity to find some good stuff… much recommended. The sesame chicken appetiser and miso was amazing and I got a sparkling, fireworking extravaganza dessert, happy me!
Also on site there is ‘The Woodshed’ which is a communal area, great for a group of friends staying. There’s coffee, boardgames and a woodstove with a bunch of sofas for a larger hang out spot.
So aside from visiting Beverley the one time for dinner, we didn’t leave, it was perfect. We brought wine and cheese and pretty much stayed in our pyjamas… chilling our way through two days of zen! If you get the opportunity to visit… don’t pass it up!
